Added by NkebuxterMatt Hooper is an oceanographer fascinated by sharks and hired by Martin Brody chief of the APD during the infamous Amity Incident in 1973.
Hooper crewed the shark vessel, Orca under captain Quint as part of a plan to catch and/or kill the predatorily shark that had staked a claim off Amity Island.
Hooper survived, and went on to be featured on a 1975 cover of National Geographic, and eventually won the America's cup in 1976.
In the film adaption of the Amity Incident (Jaws) Hooper is portrayed by actor Richard Dreyfuss. Just like events in the actual 'Amity Incident', he and Brody are the only two survivors at the end of the film.
Although Hooper never appeared in the sequel (Jaws2), there was a reference made during a brief phone conversation between he and Chief Brody. Spielberg has said during interviews he considered directing the sequel (JAWS2) however Universal decided not to wait for his schedule to clear. Richard Dreyfuss was then ironically working on the Spielberg's 'Close Encounters of The Third Kind'.
